Andrew Halliday

My inspiration is drawn from architecture, the buildings in which we live and that surrounded us. I love to depict the effects of colour and light that interact in these dynamic landscapes. In recent years, I have been using panels instead of canvas as this enables me to achieve the mark-making that I desire. I intend to keep the drawing-out within the painting, so that it forms part of the finished picture rather than being a means to an end. Recent technology, particularly the digital camera found on smartphones, have enabled me to harness unusual low level lighting effects on buildings and this has been a focus for my work at present. My latest paintings focus on city life, particularly with regard to the mass of skyscrapers found in urban locations such as London and New York.
